The public cloud services market is growing rapidly both in Russia and around the world. More and more companies are moving their applications to the cloud environment, achieving competitive advantages, for example the speed at which new products can be brought to the market. The most modern and innovative solutions are used while also reducing capital costs. According to Huawei, the annual growth of the Russian cloud market over the past year was about 25%, while the classical IT infrastructure market grew by a few percent. Last year the Russian government approved the ‘Digital Economy’ program, the priority of which is the transition to cloud technologies and the digital transformation of business and the State. The success of cloud technology is the incentive for the new business direction of Huawei in Russia, i.e. Huawei Cloud and the launch of the Huawei 3data Cloud public cloud platform.
Huawei 3data Cloud is a public cloud for enterprise customers, offering highly reliable and scalable real-time cloud services: computing services, data storage services, network services, management and security services. In addition, Huawei 3data Cloud is a universal and open platform for the ecosystems of its partner solutions SaaS and PaaS, which allows the implementation of complex solutions in the field of Internet, video, large data, e-sports and many others.
Currently, more than 20 public cloud services are available in Russia, allowing the customer to build a full cloud infrastructure with management through an online self-service cabinet or through documented APIs. By the end of 2018, the number of cloud services is expected to increase to 50. More than 30 years of investment in the development of innovative ICT solutions provides the customer with high performance and reliable solutions, real-time scaling of the infrastructure and the optimal cloud resources costing. Huawei 3data Cloud will become one of the key elements of Huawei’s global cloud service.
"Cloud services are one of the main directions of Huawei's development. We are actively developing both the technology and our relationships with partners around the world in order to become one of the world's Cloud leaders in the coming years,” said Wang Wei, Director of the Huawei’s Cloud business in Russia. "We are delighted that in our quest for leadership we were supported by 3data, which has both significant technological potential and sufficient flexibility, enabling us to adapt to the rapidly changing market conditions and provide the best service that best meets the needs of our customers."
"Russia’s cloud services market is quite rich. The range of services offered by companies is in most cases standard. As a rule, projects differ only in scale”, says Ilya Khala, CEO of 3data. “Focusing on the needs of our customers, we have created a network of premium data centers, which allows us to gain a competitive advantage due to the uniqueness of our offer. Choosing a strategic partner for this project, we focused on the potential company's innovation and its desire to invest in the development of new technologies. Huawei possesses not only one of the largest R&D centers but also has significant international experience, which we plan to actively use for the benefit of our customers".
Every year, Huawei invests about 10% of its revenue in R&D. The total volume of accumulated investments over the last ten years has reached nearly $45 billion. The Company is the leader in terms of number of patents in China, is in the Top-50 patent holders in the US and Top-10 in Europe. It is also listed in The Most Innovative Companies and Top 100 Global Innovators.
"We plan to actively expand our portfolio of services, develop partnerships, invest, create ecosystems, share experience and offer the best technological solutions for Russian customers. We are confident that this project will make a serious contribution to the development of Russia's digital economy," concluded Wang Wei.
Key Benefits of Huawei 3data Cloud:
- Currently, 99% of all cloud projects are built on boxed solutions and represent, in fact, the provision of hosting capacity for rent. Typically, this is the creation of virtual servers for the needs of customers and, sometimes, their administration. The customer also gets access to the already existing resource pool. A characteristic feature of this approach is that the start of the service is preceded by significant preparatory work. And it happens, for the most part, offline. The advantage of the public cloud service is that the customer can make settings changes online.
- Another important advantage of the public cloud service is the Pay-As-You-Go payment model (PAYG). This is where the customer pays only for the products/ resources actually used. In the Russian market, this model is not yet very common, and in the vast majority of cases, the customer is forced to pay the provider for a pre-specified pool of resources, regardless of use. Where there is a need for additional services, they are specified in addition to the original service and the connection can take some time to establish.
- The third important difference is the amount of resources and the variety of services. Currently in Russia the provision of cloud services is carried out by relatively small companies that have modest resources, in comparison with global operators with the ability to invest in technologies and solutions. As a result, the customer cannot count on the rapid allocation of significant resources and conduct testing of the services needed on a real scale. The company also has to independently replace the missing cloud functionality with third-party solutions. Public cloud, organized by the operator, initially has a large reserve of resources, which can be quickly connected as needed. Experience and technological developments, obtained by Huawei in cloud projects around the world, will allow the client to quickly and efficiently increase the functionality of the Russian cloud in accordance with the wishes of customers.
