3data and Schneider Electric, a global expert in the design and construction of data centers, announces the commissioning of a new commercial data center (НР26) in Moscow. The infrastructure of the data center is based on the integrated solution of Schneider Electric.
3data company develops a network of commercial data centers, for the first time in Russia implementing the concept of ‘data centers with step-by-step availability’. This concept implies the location of the data center in the closest proximity to customers. The name of the new data center is NR26. It is formed from its address: Moscow, Novoryazanskaya street, house 26. The location of the data center has ‘step-by-step accessibility’: NR26 is located in Moscow, where the concentration of offices of banks and communication centers of large operators is high. For these customers, the high reliability of the data center and the convenience of servicing the equipment installed in it are fundamental.
The general contractor of the project was the NovaStar Company. The design of the data center started in November 2016 and, from January 2017, preparatory work began at the site. The data center was planned to be located in the building of the former factory, and major repairs were required: nothing in the building escaped renovation, with the exception of a brick ‘frame’ and the same room was subjected to a complete redevelopment. After the completion of the repair work, in June 2017, the installation of the engineering systems began. The data center was put into commercial operation in January 2018.
The total area of the data center is 450 m2, of which machine rooms and engineering systems occupy about 250 m2. The remainder of the space is allocated for the coworking zone, designed to provide optimal work conditions to employees of companies using data center services.
The technological part of the 3data data center consists of two rooms: a room for computer equipment and one for its engineering systems. The IT equipment room is equipped with 60 NetShelter SV enclosures designed to accommodate 140 kW of server equipment. Two double lines from the uninterruptible power distribution system are connected to each cabinet, providing the possibility of connecting up to 5.5 kW of equipment.
The data center cooling system is supplied using four perimeter air conditioners (Uniflair IDAV series) with an estimated cooling capacity of 50 kW. The devices are equipped with inverter compressors, for which there are no starting currents. The air conditioners are connected to the system (which has a guaranteed power supply), ensuring a high level of availability of the engineering systems of the data center.
"In the implementation of this project for the first time in Russia, precision Schneider Electric Uniflair air-conditioners from the updated line of the IDAV series were used. The inverter compressor installed in this model provides much higher reliability and energy efficiency. Therefore, it is ideal for commercial sites, the efficiency of which directly depends on the optimization of operating costs," commented Andrey Denisov, Head of the Department for work with commercial data centers (IT Division of Schneider Electric).
The power distribution system of the building, switchboard equipment, circuit breakers and uninterruptible power supply of the data center are also supplied by Schneider Electric. The project uses a high-performance three-phase power protection system called Galaxy 5500. The UPS is reserved for N + 1 with each UPS having its own battery array, which is guaranteed to provide a high level of fault tolerance of the systems. Each of the three installed 80 kVA UPSs is able to provide power support for all the data center devices within 15 minutes. This is enough to start the backup power source - a diesel generator.
When chosing engineering solutions, 3data’s experience in the construction of previous data centers was taken into account. The systems are selected in such a way as to ensure a high level of availability of the data center, there are possibilities for carrying out routine and restoration work at all critical sites without losing the quality of the services provided. Uninterruptible power supply and air conditioning systems are able to minimize unused resources of engineering systems under the workload of the data center, reduce capital and operating expenses in the data center.

It hasn’t been long since the commissioning of the NR26 data center, yet it is already possible to sum up the first results: the total capacity of the data center was purchased by 1st March 2018, before the opening ceremony, which took place on 6th June 2018. The high reliability of the new NR26 data center, provided by Schneider Electric equipment, provides a significant competitive advantage in the market.
