The network of 3Data data centers won the IBM Partner Award for the creation of their cloud storage service ‘ArcTape’. The award ceremony took place on 27th April in Moscow as part of the PartnerWorld at the Think event. The award was presented by Andrey Filatov, IBM General Director in Russia and CIS countries and Irina Shevyakova, Director for Partner Relations in Russia and CIS countries.
The ArcTape Cloud archive and backup storage system is based on the IBM Tape Library and the IBM Spectrum Storage software. The service provides highly-reliable, hierarchical storage capabilities for companies of all sizes, including small and medium-sized businesses. Previously, the advantages of such an architecture were only available to large organizations.
Tape cartridges are a recognized world leader in the degree of reliability and durability of data storage and are used in 82% of data centers. However, until recently, this method, being actively used in corporate repositories of banks, television companies and in the oil and gas sector, was not present in Russian commercial data centers. The ArcTape service makes the use of a hybrid (disk-tape) solution available to every company.
The service provides high performance, scalability, resistance to external factors and data security at significantly lower costs than other solutions. In addition, the shelf life of data on tapes is more than 30 years - this is ten times higher than the storage period on disks.
The combination of operational capabilities of disk and solid-state systems with the highest possible reliability to date (1 x 1019 BER) and the durability of data storage provided by tape libraries, is an effective response to the global growth of information volumes. In addition, following the example of Google, the ArcTape project allows you to organize the last line of defense against hacker attacks and software failures.
ArcTape is ideal for storing large amounts of data (audio and video archives, backup copies of IT systems, other large data sets that do not require instant access for download). At the same time, the availability and security of data transmission plays an important role, which is provided by the leading telecommunications operator Mastertel, which organizes secure digital channels and provides direct fiber-optic lines.
Now companies of any scale can gain the main advantage of tape - reliable, long-lasting and inexpensive data storage. At the same time, you do not need to master the new technology yourself, spend money on new equipment, place it in data centers and hire qualified IT personnel. A simple commercial service is available to all comers.
